About the NOEG

Northern Ontario Enterprise Gateway (NOEG) is the premier organization in the North created to stimulate increased investment by Northern Ontario investors into Northern Ontario companies. This is accomplished by improving the flow of investment capital and management expertise into high-growth potential northern companies through the creation of angel investor groups.

Our Vision: Economic Prosperity in the North.

Our Mission: To create more informed investors and better prepared entrepreneurs.

In the summer of 2004, a detailed infrastructure analysis was undertaken in the cities of Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Thunder Bay and Timmins. Funded by FedNor, this study identified two critical issues for Northern Ontario small to medium enterprises:
  • Entrepreneurs struggle with the "equity gap". Viewed as ""too risky" for traditional investment services and "too small" for venture capitalists, it is difficult to source the funding for rapid growth/commercialization of new products and technologies.
  • Entrepreneurs are challenged by the need to locate investors and to become "investor ready." Entrepreneur education is required to prepare their business presentation to meet the strict criteria private investors look for.

Northern Enterprise Gateway was created to address these key issues by acting as a catalyst to form angel investment groups and creating a gateway through which to facilitate the linkage of entrepreneurs and investors. NOEG has established angel investment groups/networks in Northeastern and Northwestern Ontario.
